Default changing the parameters to alter performance of an O/S.

Right got a question as part of one of my uinits, the question

"Critically evaluate the effect of changes to the OS parameters and variables on its performance"

I understand the question but dont really knowswhat type of settings to change, but does anyone know of any programes that i can prove the bench marking. (think im gonna use pcmark04- For the bench marking).

Anyone got any other ways of changing the parameters to alter performance of an O/S.

P.s The O/S is winsows XP.

Thanks

dont know if people will understand what im going on about

yea, find a system that has never been reinstalled, go to msconfig>startup and make sure everything is checked, then run pcmark, after that, disable all those entries and run pcmark again and see what different you get
