I have a compaq and in the computer there is something called system recovery, which restores the computer like the day it was bought. When I click on it, it tells me
"The drive or network connetion that the shortcut 'Compaq System Recovery.Ink' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again."
I haven't touched anything, what can I do to restore. I dont want to format.

did your compaq come with a system restore disk?
chances are that information is on a partition not viewable when in the OS (for whatever reason)
if you can boot to a Compaq recovery disk it will load the utilities needed to restore your computer.
