Since having the desktop icons on still doesnt show those items i doubt that is it. So it has to be 2. I see the same thing. But it doesnt show those items on the desktop until you place them in the location i have specified.

Chara: haven't read through the entire thread explicitly, but have you made a folder manually then tried extracting to there? Also, what are you using to extract the driver? If you're using built-in windows utility to extract a .zip file, try WinZip or WinRAR or even WinACE.

No need to worry about it anymore though cause I have searched the net high and dry and can't find drivers for this modem as it is over 10 years old and have come to reason I probs need a newer one. Hopefully, one that comes with a CD with drivers o it... lol. Thx for help guys. I really appreciate it.

| Re: Can't see files Alright let me clarify this. The Desktop that it shows does NOT mean that those items are on the desktop. That is a shortcut to the same location that i have said several times now.
C:\Users\<username>\Desktop
It is also not a network location. That was my mistake as i saw it highlighted. I took it as a network location.
Those folder are located in the same location as the desktop folder that i have stated. In C:\Users\<username>\
In there Chara should find the Drivers folder that he extracted the files to. DO NOT use WinZip to get there.
Start>Computer>C:\>Users>then select your username>In there take a screen shot of that folder. I bet i will find the Drivers folder that you extracted the files to.
The confusion is that because people see the Desktop at the top of the list that they think those locations are on the desktop. They are NOT. Plain and simple unless you put those items there they are not on your desktop by default. It is not Desktop\C:\Users\<username>\ and such. They kind of trick you with having that item at the top.
The locations are in fact all separate. Which is why when you click Computer you get what you would get if you click Computer on the start menu. It is just that the Desktop doesnt have any sub directories to be displayed which is why it doesnt have the arrow in front of it.
I hope that helps clarify this.

thx
Again, this is all for not as I believe I am going to get another modem that comes with driver CD.
Also, I appreciate the help. |

thx | Have you tried DriverGuide by chance? And have you tried looking at the card physically and finding a more specific model number? Quote:

In Chara's screenshot, all the folders listed below Network (Crack Lock, Documents, etc) are all going to be in the C:\Users\<username>\Desktop directory, just like the Diagnostics, Games, etc folders in my screenshot are in that directory as well (all listed below the Network folder in that dialog).

Again, this is all for not as I believe I am going to get another modem that comes with driver CD.
Also, I appreciate the help. | You dont. The driver folder should come with a installer. If it doesnt then the only way to install the drivers is to MOVE that folder from that location and put it in the C:\ Root. Not in any subfolder. Then in Device Manager click on the driver tab and from there click update Driver. It will then give you the option to try online or to select the location manually. That is when you would select the location.
Again you DONT have to select start. You have the location already there. When you click Computer it expands. As i said several posts above Click on the C:\ Drive. From there you will see the User Folder from which you would select that and then select the driver folder.
You are making this out to be more complicated than it has to be.
you are almost there with this picture. As i said with the post directly after it Select the C:\ Drive which you have labeled as Windows 7. Then you will see the Users Folder. Click on that and it will give you the Usernames. Click the proper username and it will expand to give you the rest of the folders. One of which would be the desktop. Upon which you would click that to get the folder where you extracted the drivers too.
I am linking to a gallery that shows screenshot by screenshot what to do. Device Manager Tutorial pictures by mak213joker - Photobucket
They are even labeled by step.
