~Can't install xp updates~

dont know whats goin on but after formmatting my PC again i cant install updates at all (did before)
they download but it says error when installing!

is it because of the firewall & anti-virus

sorry cant get pic because my camera is dead , and its a copy of windows, all ready tried with firewall off
but it used to work!
those microsoft guys are getting smarter and smarter
