Re: cannot remove AVG 8.0 HELP! I ran into that problem a lot a few years ago... I found the only way to repair an OS from AVG's Mess is to format-C... Seems uninstalling AVG takes a lot of the OS with it... I won't touch AVG "with a ten foot pole" anymore... That vile software ran me through a couple hundred hours of grief... Get Sunbelt and BitDefender... Or if you can afford to buy pricey softs, get Node32's best package...
Uninstall the Windows OS with an old W98 install CD & floppy.. then pull the battery for half an hour... then, with the Internet unplugged, install your new OS, formatting it yet again... That'll ensure you've actually cleaned-out all the crap... Be sure to install the new system, with the internet connection unplugged from the tower, or it will fill up with all kinds of crap... Then install SunBelt from CD, and set it to block every connection.. Reconnect the internet cable, then teach SunBelt FW what you want to connect...
Now run: CCleaner, EasyCleaner (not its reg nor dups), RegScrub, Defrag, Spybot S&D, BitDefender, and CMDiskCleaner's custom reg search and destroy for "backweb, produkey, showbehind, Desktopmessenger.. and delete only those finds... If you are running W98 or W2k, add Macromedia and shockwave to the S&D... Macromedia and shockwave is what's causing those lockups in the older OS's... It's just too powerful for the old systems... Biggest cause of problems is adding too-new softwares to old systems... |
