what if you don't know how to get to that directory... right now I'm in the "documents and settings\bobo" folder in CMD, but i type dir my documents
and it doesn't go to it, I just can't figure out how to get to the folder, how do i do that?

wow, yeah sorry I just figured it out. Okay so I'm in the folder... i did a 'dir' to find the name of it, and when i type in "erase this i~1.mpg" it doesn't work. i tried adding another letter, doesn't work, i tried doing "erase this~1.mpg" and it doesn't work. It says it could not find the file.

It's the first six letter before you add the ~1.mpg for example if the file name was pornvideo.mpg

erase pornvi~1.mpg

Glad you got it. Another tool to use in XP is subst, which maps a folder to a drive leter. This will allow you to deal with really long files from within the OS, since you are using a valid path that is shortened by how ever many chars were in the original path.
