| BOOTMGR Missing on Windows Vista I have a Gateway laptop booting up to a black screen showing BOOTMGR Missing Ctrl Alt Dlt to Reboot. I took it to best buy and some guy told me it was a bad HD, even though I just bought a new HD only a few months ago for it. So im running Boot and Nuke, but it has an estimated remaining time of 445 hours. which doesn't seem right. Does this mean the HD could be damaged? When i just try to install Vista without doing anything to the HD, i get an error that the installation cannot write the files. it extracts fine, but stops about the writing files step in the vista installation. Any ideas? |

| Re: BOOTMGR Missing on Windows Vista Sometimes for unknown reasons the vista boot repair option on the vista cd fixs things... Sometimes I end up with a random file missing or partition corruption, and I usualy just run the vista cd and tell it to repair, that usualy fixs the issue... |

| Re: BOOTMGR Missing on Windows Vista Windows XP doesn't recognize a drive cause you have SATA Drives in your PC and Windows XP did not come with SATA Drivers on the CD. SATA came out long after XP.
You would have to get the SATA Drivers for your system and put them on a floppy or USB Thumb Drive and use the F6 to install 3rd party driver option or turn your SATA drives into IDE Legacy mode in order for XP to see the hard drive and install.

| Re: BOOTMGR Missing on Windows Vista The setup CD doesn't detect the SATA drives, which is why you need the drivers to be loaded during setup detection, like it asks ("Press F6 if you need to load SCSI drivers" or something like that).

| Re: BOOTMGR Missing on Windows Vista Do you have the specific drivers you need for your SATA drives on a floppy, USB THumb Drive or CD?
