Default Booting with a choice to start Windows

Hello.

I got an Asus EEE 4g to use as a portable notebook for just that- making notes.

It came with XP pro installed.

In my dream, the system boots into a simple "text input mode" or command prompt and I have the option of running windows from that point.

I will do most anything to make this happen (write a program, run linux instead of xp...).

Any ideas? Any other information I can provide? Thanks in advance.

The only option to do this really would be to boot to DOS. But that isnt a not taking application. that is jsut a text based OS like Windows.

the only thing you can really do is load up Windows with Notepad being the default application to start.

If you do anythin else you can input text but you wont be able to save anything. I am sure you wouldnt want to take all teh time to take the notes but not save them.

from my how to join a domain post

here what I did. it is almost exactly how you had it. Now I can join a domain. Can I name it whatever I want?

Insert Windows XP CD.
Start > Run > X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons
(replace X: with the appropiate drive letter)
Acknowledge prompt by clicking 'Yes'.
Skip updating process by clicking 'Cancel' or by pressing 'Esc'
After installation, acknowledge success msg. by clicking 'Ok'
Start > Shutdown > Restart
At boot menu, select 'Microsoft Windows Recovery Console'

you now have text mode options
