Boot XP

My friend has a WinXP home PC setup. He can only access Safe Mode. Sometimes the PC just boots up for a second, then shuts off or reboots during WinXP login screen.

Possible causes: Viruses/Spyware/etc, he used to unplug the computer from the wall sometimes

What else do you think could be the problem?

it could be a number of things...do you have the XP cd?

how was the pc running before all this happened? did you edit, delete, install, uninstall, hardware changes, etc?

He said he installed some games from Verizon. He also said his little cousin used to unplug the power from the wall about 3-4 times.......every 20 minutes or so.
