Default BOOT ERROR - diagnosing

.......but is there an easier way? I found M'softs page on figuring this out, involving tedious step-by-step (endlessly !) , about drivers, msconfig, boot listings, etc, etc.
I can open the error report, but it lists seemingly everything but the grocery list I forgot.
IS THERE NOTHING from that "dmp" or "xml" error file that can give a clue as to why I'm getting this error "Windows has recovered from a serious......whatever?" . It should add "Maybe", because often the PC reboots if I just touch the mouse, or open anything. (this whole error thing fortunately does not happen with every boot-up, or I'd be pulling the greyest hairs from my head now, and all day, each day until I resolved it)
Help, please !
