| Big Vista Problems... I have mac now... just got one... and before I was so devoted to microsoft and vista. But now it seems like i've gone to the dark side. I'm tired of fixing this OS as its always crashing on me. In different ways. It sucks! But I need it back. Heres my dellima, if anybody can figure this out. I can't access my vista drive at all anymore... "no bootable partition in table"... does anybody know how I can fix this? This happened as I was trying to fix the original problem... which is... and still needs to be fixed as soon as I boot into vista, it won't accept my password... something happened to the partition drive and the main drive on the disk... so now theres no partition and it was deleted... but vista won't accept my password. On top of that... and an entire day lost to trying to install xp and restore the drive from another drive from my other back up drive (yes... many drives).... acronis won't accept my password that I configured on the backup... so I can't restore without maybe cracking that password... if thats possible. Any ideas?? I'm so sick and tired of windows... but I need for games and saved data and whatnot... i'm slowly moving everything to some new macs that I'm going to be purchasing in the future... because they don't tend to crash and screw up ALL THE TIME. You can probably see how frustrated I am... please if anybody has any ideas... thanks in advance!!

| Re: Big Vista Problems... Do you need to BOOT your Vista partition or just recover data from it? Try using a Linux LiveCD like Ubuntu to access the Vista partition (not boot it, but access files from it, you can back up to USB, another hard drive/partition, or network share). Then after you back up your files you can reinstall Vista from scratch or try fixing it without worrying about data loss.

| Re: Big Vista Problems... Hello,
My first question is why is this in the hardware area? It is clearly Windows related or even Mac related. Not hardware.
As for your question the only way to successfully dual boot OS X with Vista is thru Boot Camp.
Create a new account in Safe Mode then import your old profile. How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XP
The Partition issue is major. If the partition tables were lost then you have no choice but to setup the partitions again and format it and reinstall Vista.
Cheers,
Mak

| Re: Big Vista Problems... Oh... I'm sorry. The mac is a completely separate machine. Its my pc desktop thats the problem. I've just been frustrated with vista lately... I don't want to dual boot OS X with vista... i'm wondering if there is a way to recover a vista password after I fix the partition table?
I'm sorry... i've been working with multiple computers this morning and was switching drives and whatnot between sata and ide's... i thought hardware for some reason. Thanks ^_^

| Re: Big Vista Problems... Zero,
Will move for you. Jsut wondering why it was here.
If you do manage to get the partition tables fixed without losing your install your best bet might be Ophcrack. That should work to basically crack your own password. But other than that going into Safe Mode and seeing if you can get into the hidden Admin account to reset the password might be your other best option.
there isnt to many Vista Password tools out there as of yet.
Cheers,
Mak

"because they don't tend to crash and screw up ALL THE TIME"....
I wonder how ACTUAL that is
macs crash all the time when I worked with them...Vista, I can't recall any crashing
your various password issues seem to be yours and not a thing of any windows variant, perhaps that is your problem? I would vote for my latter theory to be correct. |

| Re: Big Vista Problems... I had ophcrack and tried that but what it says is that there is no password. I'm thinking that the password was somehow erased?
Mak, how do I get into the hidden admin account in safe mode?

| Re: Big Vista Problems... Hello,
It should be selected right from the user menu. If not you will have to opena command prompt with admin right.
Right click>Run as Admin.
From there type this in: Code: net user administrator /active:yes
That will activate that account. From there log off and you should see it and be able to login with it.
Cheers,
Mak
