Default Backup Problems

Hello,
Im trying to backup some files in Win98 before I go and partition my drive to install linux. When I insert a blank cd and try and write to it its telling me that "D:\ is not accessible, The device is not ready, Retry Cancel", as if there is no cd in the drive. Does anybody know how I can write to this drive? I have used this drive many times before for burning cds.
Also, how to i get into my BIOS at start-up so as to select a cd-rom drive for boot up rather than the already selected floppy-drive?
Hope somebody can help, cheers!!

Default

Try another brand of disc.

Hit "Del" When booting. Some computers use the keys F9 - F12.
Change the boot sequence in the Standard CMOS setup menu.
