Default Backup media

Just curious, what do you all backup your data to? CD, DLT tape, FTP, external HD? Oh, which are the safest, most reliable?

thank you

External HDD. As for the 2nd part it all depends on how you do it. Tape can be safe for a comapny if only 1 person ahndles them and they take good care of them.

Same thing can be said of any backup media. Tape can be erased with just a magnet. While a CD would be better it would takes tons of them. External HDD is good but you have to worry about heat.

So it is all personal preference and how you take care of the stuff that will matter more as to what is safe and most reliable.

Would something like this be good enough to back up my internal HDD and be compatible with my win XP Pro desktop?

USB 2.0 2.5 HDD Hard Drive Sata External Case Enclosure - eBay (item 190226289754 end time Jun-02-08 16:42:54 PDT)

thank you

I backup non-important stuff onto ext HDD
(movies/ music/games/useful programs)
and important stuff onto ext. HDD and DVDs
(family photos, videos / ex's "exclusive" photos, videos)
just because DVDs usually have higher life* expectancy than HDDs

*I mean data retaining life not... breaks easier with your hands life...

HDD would be faster and easier

and yes that external case would be nice, but you need 2.5" drive which usually have higher cost but smaller/ more mobile
than 3.5" drive that desktops usually use

So I need 3.5" for my desktop then?

3.5in = Desktop hard drive
2.5in = laptop hard drive.

If it's a external caddy you need to get one to fit it so a 2.5in caddy requiers a 2.5in drive an a 3.5 will need a 3.5.

External HDD at home, tape at work. I keep the tapes off site in a controlled environment.
