Exclamation avast!

Great its getting annoying again. I just reformatted(XP) and installed SP2. Oh wait before SP2, because i had to download it, i installed avast. When I was installing SP2, avast found viruses in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DelSrv.exe, C:\WINDOWS\system32\asr_01544.exe and one more in system32 that is also a system file. Should i have avast delete them?

Before you do anything, DONT delete things unless you know what they do, especially in a system32 folder. Be careful with that....

Instead of doing that, try going through Osiris' Spyware Removal Guide which you can find by clicking the link referring to it in my signature. Trust me it really works, I have used it before. Click this V V V link , do that first and follow the instructions! And good luck

Where did you download SP2 from? Windows Update? Microsoft.com? Another site?

If you didn't download the SP from Microsoft you could have gotten a virus or two from the download. What i'm thinking though is you already had these virus's and that Avast! just found them. You said you just installed Avast!, so what were you using before for Virus protection? I'm thinking these files were on there before - or you downloaded them accidentally.

Do a thorough virus and spyware scan with Avast! and Spybot S&D then delete anything they find. IMO you're fine in deleting those files as most virus's will reside in system folders and files.

After cleaning off your system install SP2, then install SP3. And CONTINUE using some type of virus protection.

I would agree with Lex. Cause DelSrv.exe is not a normal process on a XP install. It stnads for Delete Service. That is not something that comes with XP. Not in SP2 or SP3.

asr_01544.exe is also another one.

So i would have Avast delete them. Cause they are bad and they were installed previous to you installing SP2. It is just that Avast is doing a active scan which is scanning the files in teh directories affected by the SP2 install which is why it is catching them.

Comodo is only good as a firewall. Not as a Security Suite or AV.
