Default Add/remove list

so, I've run into a question that google hasn't turned up any answers too.

So, I have my add/remove list which has populated all the programs on my system partition, I have three other partitions where I plan to install software on. Now, when I install the software, the list doesn't show the change that it's there. Is this strange? I know the program is physically there but, I can't find it in the add/remove list. is there a trick to re-populating the programs from the other partitioned drives?
