Before, I couldn't access my folders because they had been password protected. Thanks so much for the advice, but now I have another problem (as per usual). The files that i was able to take from the folder cannot be opened. Do I need to change the accesses on files too?
yes. it should have a check box that ask you to apply everything inside the folder

Have you accidently delete something? Look here (trial. the better one) and here(free)
check the propagate to the child objects...
that should fix you right up....
ps.. make sure you are not using "simple sharing" in Xp.
If not make sure you are the "owner" of the folder.
