go to add/remove, add/remove windows components and uninstall outlook express and see what happens

Used to have a dial-up msn acct. on this computer until I got verizon dsl.

There is no outlook express in add/remove. Weird... There is a microsoft outlook office connector, but I'm not sure if this is it.

not just add/remove, but also there is a add/remove windows components on the left hand side

try going into your passport and signing out

I uninstalled msn a while ago when we got dsl.

Sorry, I don't follow, left hand side of what?

that has nothing to do with it. the net passport goes online and check your email when the computers is booting up.

OK, I'm really confused now. where is this unread mail message then? how do I delete net passport? I'm not sure what it is and don't have it in add/remove.

get a copy of TweakUI - go to login and turn it off

Hello,

Download and install the TweakUI Microsoft Windows XP PowerToy here:

...Follow that link and click to download TweakUI.exe listed on the right.

Next, install and then run TweakUI. Should be in your start menu under Powertoys for Windows XP.

Then, navigate to this view:



Uncheck the box Show unread mail on welcome screen, and below, choose whether you want the changes to affect just you or all users on the system.

TweakUI will make the same changes in the registry as if you were to do it manually...only difference is it gives you a Graphical User Interface to make registry tweaking easier.
