Default LCD problem

I have a compaq presario r4000. A year ago I sent the unit to HP since the LCD stopped working (still had warranty), I'm not sure what was the problem, for example I could see the computer was still working but with no backlight. HP refused to tell me what was the problem. Now the screen is beginning to do the same thing, it's beginning to flicker. What could the problem be? the inverter? if I buy a new LCD would it solve the issue?

Sometimes the backlight can die on an lcd. They can be replaced but the price and difficult of doing so varies. It's not always very hard, I hear, but I've never done one before so I can't say. As far as looking into just getting a new lcd panel, that would cost around $200, although there appear to be several for under $150 on ebay.

Always fun trying too - if it's pretty much dead usability-wise now, might as well see what it takes.

laptop screens are generally easy to work on, just watch who you get them from, as creasing will destroy functionality.

you've been warned
