Talking cannot read sd card-please help

Hello there, this is my first time using the sd card slot on my laptop, and well today i inserted a card into my laptop but it just doesnt read!!!. The card type "XD" is also supported by this laptop but it doesnt show anything once i place the card inside...plus i dont even know what to look for.

What am i looking for and why isnt this darn thing working lol!!

Nothing's listed as "Removable Drive" in My Computer? Do they work in your camera or another card reader (try an external card reader that plugs in via USB...they're fairly cheap for the multi-type card readers). If the cards work, but you're not seeing anything, you could have a dead reader in your laptop. Either that, or try to find updated drivers for it.

Na there was nothing in my computer, and it came with an olympus camera. Ill try rebooting though.
(oh wait, ive disabled some services on my laptop through msconfig as well-might this be the cause??)
