Default Will SATA work with my mother board?

Hi'ya

I'm currently thinking about expanding my small 100gb hard drive to maybe 500gb. I've looked on various places and the SATA crops up a lot of the times. Now back when I bought my computer, it was using IDE interface HDD's, this was 4 years ago now. Question is, will SATA be compatible with my current motherboard?

Heres the link to my motherboard:
MP-8P4-E 2.0

Thanks

I think it should support the SATA, the mobo seems pretty good (4 four years ago!) you would just have to get an IDE to SATA cable. Not sure where ud get that from tho. Try newegg.com

It doesn't look like it has SATA. Go with this:
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular recording) ST3500630A 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM

right ,Thats a 478 socket motherboard and to the best of my knolledge there are no sata ports on any of them. What you can do is get a sata card that plugs into one of your pci slots.

Talking Re: Will SATA work with my mother board?

So if I do decide to go with SATA, will it be more beneficial to me than an IDE?

Thanks for all your responses btw, given me more options to choose from.

I personally own two 478 boards that have SATA ports - one Intel and one Asus.

I have a socket 478 w/ SATA as well.

You won't notice any difference between SATA and IDE. IDE is fast enough.
