uninstall disk drive

in the device manager under 'disk drives' i am trying to uninstall/remove something that should not be there. simply right-clicking and "uninstall" doesnt work. i'm useing XP. any suggestions?

Are you sure the device is disconnected? It should be removed automatically.

Have you tried disabling it first, although I doubt thats the problem
