| Radeon 9800 Pro So I have the opportunity to get a Radeon 9800 Pro with 128 MB RAM (built by ATI) for around $120, and my Chaintech Geforce 6600 (AGP 8x) with 256 MB RAM just fried.
So what would performance be like with a 9800 PRO??
(Not interested in 6600GT, etc, please dont suggest those, far too expensive right now)

9800pro is a sweet card, there will be a big difference in the 9600pro youve got now.. worth it

Save up for the GT, the Pro and 6600 are probolly aroudn the same peformance, pro being slightly better. |

| Guys. He "cannot" wait longer since he specifically said his 6600 fried. Buddy needs a vid card right now. And from the sound of things he can only spend $120 bucks. Even if the 6600 Gt is a better deal, he cannot get it. So I think his question is, what's the best he can get for $120 and whether it'll be as good as the 6600.
I personally don't know the answer having not owned either. The 6600 GT is better than the 9800 pro and obviously the 6600. My guess is that the 9800 pro would be faster than the vanilla 6600. |

| Here are some benchmarks showing the 9800 Pro up against the 6600GT. As expected, the 6600GT clearly wins, however for $60 bucks less that 9800 Pro is a great deal, and I highly recommend getting it. If I were you, I would not pass that up.

| I think for that budget 9800 pro probably is best.

| You could check the buy/sell/trade forum for cheaper hardware. People sell video cards there. |

| The 9800 Pro Sucks. I've had one. I hated it. Midrange games it's fine, but with the newer games like Doom3, HL2, CS:S - It's just plain blahhhh. You can't use any higher than low-to may-be mid settings.
Keep in mind I did have a P4 3.2GHz in that machine, may-be it might be a bit better in a AMD based machine...
THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION
