Default pc2 or pc

my friend is looking to buy some ram but what is the difference between PC2 and PC and ddr2 and ddr they seem to go together like.

ddr 400 - pc 3200

ddr2 400 - pc2 3200

the main question is will this make the diffence between the ram working or not?

the connectors are different, eg: ddr is 184pin, ddr 2 is 240pin, and the speeds / etc are different too.

It depends on what kind of motherboard he has. Whether it supports DDR or DDR2 ram.
