Default Not letting dvd burner read disc in dma mode

Okay i have been spending pretty much my whole day with this mess and it has been ****ing me off

Comp im running is
P4 3.0 overclocked 3.5
Mother board is a Asus P4C800-E DELUXE With lates 1021 bios update
1gig of ram

I got a Asus Drw-1608p Dvd burner i installed it and then started up windows and it detected the drive fine and installed the drivers. After that i went to go test the drive i could not get it to read any cds or dvd or any thing at all so i went in bios and check everthing out it was fine all set to auto. Next i came to check the mode the controller was on it was dma like it should be i have my other drive on dma and it working fine. So out of last resort i try PIO mode on the controller and now i can use the burner.

The prob is that i want to be able to use the **** thing in Dma not in PIO becuase it is to **** slow. What do you think is causing it not to work in DMA i really need some help here any sugguestions plz otherwise i have to wait till monday to contact asus to see if they can help me,

Im still not totaly certian if this is a hardware or software problem what you think?
