thank you all, its all working, actually much props to my teacher who figured this out in like two seconds...funny thing behind this, i actually emailed the maker of my old "router", they said it was a hub and wouldnt work regardless, i guess a ghost has been making it work for the past two years...another funny story, i borrowed a router from my brother to see if that works, he takes his router from his house, brings it over here with the cord from his dsl modem, so i have the wrong cord, there is no cord over at my dads for the modem, he was ****ed, needless to say, my brother dies at midnight

meh, i know you've already had this solved, but whenever this happens to me, i just unplug everything from cable modem, do a hard reset on the router, then plug everything off the router; then i replug and reset up the internet from the router and it works

oh, and i get a new ip address every time
