it's a simple thing, but more relative to each person. inform yourself, it's much better than listening to some person spew their thoughts, even me! lol Large-screen television technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia back to what i mean in my first sentence. Take me for example, I'm not anal about black levels or some super fancy shmancy audio system to enjoy this and that. However I am smart about it. I buy dvds because I enjoy watching movies. Because I truly enjoy watching movies, I want to make the most out of my viewing pleasure, I use a projector for movie viewing. 10' of home cinema for this poor joe taint too shabby. I have an HDTV lcd, my asian market alternative hd dvd player, pioneer av unit, 5.1 surround with subwoofer. so now, back to the relative nature. You can scrutinize all the sets out there, and try and find the highest black level lcd around, but if you don't do much with it, you shouldn't bother yourself with it. That's like a lot of people here and elsewhere who may attempt to say something like "see that 1 pixel out of 3million is off" or "those trumpets don't sound airy enough"...like they actually REALLY know what the heck they are talking about. An easier and simpler analogy maybe...is the slob who gives advice in the gym. Weights 400lbs, has a belly roll that blends into the knee region...and swears by certain routines as he "coaches" other people ![]()

that's a decent spec, but they have 10000:1 and 3-4 ms...I would say if you are not fanatical, the mid range is decent enough. But of course, with how fast things are going, if you plan to buy in another month or 2, those high ends could turn into mid levels. edit: and yes, higher contrast and quicker response time is better

lol, I didn't commit to any NEXT gen disc format yet...what I do have is a little known hi-def disc format. It's just a little confusing how I typed it I guess...HDdvd is the moniker......i use a hi-def dvd player ![]() This player was out maybe 3 years before the other 2. It will go the way of the dinosaurs maybe but does a good job. The player allowed me to hook up standard av, component, svideo, vga, dvi....well before the hollywood/mainstream players. This is what it played: High-Definition Versatile Disc - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Maybe it won't die out: HVD I hope the hddvd and/or bd camps don't try and put an embargo on the hvd sales in the US.
