Hi there.

A friend (honest it's not me doing the silly stuff for once!) believes he has accidently deleted the driver for his dial up modem.

Is this actually possible?

Is there anyway to recover it?

Presumably it must be possible to download the driver from the manufacturers site (motorola in his case). How does one find out the exact make/model of a modem without taking the case off the tower? (I think he's running win98)

If I was successful in finding the correct driver I suppose I could download it for him onto a CD or a floppy and then simply install it onto his system.

There are a couple of programs out there such as "Unknown Device" that may correctly identify the model. Ideally, you need to remove the modem from the computer and find a unique identifier on the physical card and then find the driver associated.
