Default File format used on DVD players ( UK)

Hi,
I've got some video files (.avi) that i want to put onto a DVD, and thus be able to play on my DVD player. However I tried to burn them onto a DVD using .avi format but when i tried to play on DVD player it said that the format was not supported.
Do you guys know what type of file the videos should be inand what program should i use to convert them?
Im in UK with a PAL dvd player if it makes a differance
Thanks

Your DVD player doesn't support avi files -.-

Burning avi files to a DVD and trying to play them WILL NOT WORK. You need to convert the avi files to the DVD format, which is universal if not regarding region codes.

this application only allows you to convert 1 file at once. Do you know of a program/way of converting multiple files at once?
Thanks

Use Nero or any good burning program and it should be capable of doing it for you.

generally no. it depends on the individual player though. many these days can playback a variety of formats including some MPEG4 encoded videos e.g. DivX/Xvid and x264.
