I've just entered the market for an external hard drive (I stupidly purchased a mere 40 GB two years ago when I bought this rig.) I only need about 80-120 GB extra. Which brands/models would be best (reasonably priced!!)

Dude, a much cheaper way would be to buy a regular harddrive, then buy a ~$30 enclosure for it.

Better yet, just stick that regular HD inot your computer, assuming you have the space and IDE port. But if you must get an external one, then look at the Ximeta NetDisk. I don't know much about it, but it can act a a network HD, which could be extraordinarily usefull.

What is the price range you are looking at?

get a 160 gb internal westwern digital. better yet if thats your price range get a 10,000 rpm sata

are you wanting it to be external for portablility reasons, or are you just wanting another harddrive? If you don't need portability then just go with an internal drive, which are cheaper in most cases. If you still want an external, here's a nice one that looks cool also.

If yu dont really need that much space, look at the 80 gig. Cheapest price I could find for that one was at Staples.
