Default DVD Drive, not coping with everything

Hello, My DVD Drive, seems to play dvd's and cd-rom's really well,
I wanted to do a full system re-format, but everytime i went to boot from isk it ould allow me to but would not actually do it, it would instead load the present version of windows?
Thanx...
