| Hi there guys! Its a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop. 512mb ram 80gb hdd etc etc when i turn it on it i hear the fan start, the cd drive makes a noise as if trying to boot but the screen stays black. I have tested the screen...all ok. Occassionally i can get the bios screen on (like once in a hundred boots). I recieved an error message about memory. I read other forums that suggested i used 1 x 256mb ram instead of two. this was no luck either. Please help. Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who helps me. |

| did you try both sticks, individually in all slots? if not then give that a try. if you have then see if you can get a hold of some other memory to test with.

| Techalicious | Maybe try taking the Motherboard battery out and tap it with some metal to reset it. Put it back in and boot up ![]()

| Lurker Techie | That's if you can get to it without taking the case completely apart (which can be quite task...). Remember, it's in a laptop. And I know that some companies (seen a few Toshibas like this) solder the CMOS battery in place, so you'd have to desolder it/resolder it back together =\.
