Default CSS and HL2 Error

I just got my computer reformatted. So i had to install hl2 and Counter-Strike source again. Now everytime i start up hl2 or counter-strike source an error pops up and says:

Quote:
The instruction at "0x222362ad" referenced memory at "0x0d5d61b0". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to rerminate the program
Specs:
AMD3000+
1 gig ram
2x 80gig in raid0
6800gs

I tried a reinstall of the games, same thing.
I also looked on steam forums and couldnt find anything useful.

Any Help?

i did read about this issue on the steam forums a while back. i can't remember if there was a patch or some sort of action that had to be taken to correct it. have you overclocked your pc at all?

download memtest86 and run it for a few passes. the memory error could actually be valid. if you get errors in memtest then you know the cause of this. i doubt its the memory though because i remember reading about this and it even happened to me once i just can't remember the actions taken

sorry i suppose i sound pedantic but do you mean "now errors" as in it errors with memtest or was it a typo?

that may be an issue with the memory controller in your CPU.
