Crysalis I know you guys have 75K mixers easily, but you guys also have alot more channels. A good 750$ DJ mixer will be 2 channels, when it comes out for what you get per channel studio mixers are cheaper.

You guys also seem to be smudging together audiophile and studio engineer.

And it's true that audiophiles dont want "1000" watts of gear nor studio engineers. Yes a DJ will want 115+ db (115 is safe point) and more bass than their should, but most of us at home (not in a club) use studio monitors or good stero's.

Personally my setup sounds great except for one crappy peice of gear, my stanton mixer sounds like garbage.

For my speakers im using a pair of "60 watt" 30 year old a-50 speakers because they sound better than today's garbage.

Im getting some yorkville ysm-1p studio monitors (hey, Crysalis you heard of these, their built up in Canada and that's why most Americans wont touch them) My current speakers are waaay too big and their could be beter sound.

Yes, it strange, but it happen. I find that i am normally reinstalling my AC 97 drivers to sort this problem out. Only to have the same problem come back in about 6 week time.

Anyways, I find me Creative Labs SB Live 5.1 DE Sound Card.
Firstly, the sounds is much much much better.
Secondly, I am not getting that feed back sound.

Basically, if I was going to be getting one of these better sound cards, I would be expecting that I am hooking it up to some sort of musicail intrument, Sound Mixing board, and not just up to a set of Logitech 6.1 gaming speakers.

Yamaha (and some of the other professional quality sound card manufacturers) don't even like me selling their products as they are rather specialised.
Firstly, they want to make sure that thier customer gets the right sound card for thier application.
Secoundly, they do not want to see their product prostituted at a cheap-$0-margin like just about every other IT product that is on the market.
If you are just going to get yourself a one of those hi-end sound card just so you can play UT2kX, then you are F***ing idiot.
In fact, there is a good chance the sound card might not even work on UT2kX.

when you use a sound card for Professional Editing you need one with zero latency. they are way more expensive. Some $300.00-400.00 sound cards have low latency. But that is not good enough for Professional Editing

My new PC is running a Creative Audigy 2 ZS with a creative T7900 7.1 speaker set and it is the perfect sound companion for my 20.1" Viewsonic VP201B TFT for watching DVDs and playing games. Its worth it for DVDs and games but not just for music.

Yeah latency free soundcards (or at least cards under 3ms for lesser work) are very very important.

A few reasons i don't like creative cards

1) Cheaper converters (compared to rme and m-audio)
2) The audigy 2 zs is more expensive than the revolution 7.1 which to me seems like a better solution
3) Most of them come with that hidious breakout box

The goal here isnt to have 1000 i/os at 96.1 its to have crisp quality sound @ 44.1 with 7i/os. I used ac97 at home for the longest time, because it worked well for games and i didnt see any reason to upgrade. I use all different kinds of cards at work from audigys, motus (guh), rme, m-audio, lynx, even got to play with a DigiCo mixer board. I knew that ac97 didnt sound as good as the higher quality sound cards but, i didn't realize how much until i brought home my firewire-410. I started listening to music that i had listened to for the past 10 years and could pick out new things within the songs that i hadnt heard before. For instance, in some songs i can hear the pick hitting the guitar.. in others i can hear the artists fingers hitting the guitar, or can hear things in the background (artists that dont have the luxury of an iso booth, so outside noise gets picked up on the mic). Some songs i can even hear the fans of the computer used to record the project!

If you can afford it you'll love it..

I have to build a system on monday that has a revolution 7.1 on the invoice.. I'll see how it sounds.

edit: i just realized i'll also have an audigy 2 zs at the shop on monday aswell.

I am Jealous, that is the monitor I wanted. But it was like $300 more than mine at the time .
