Default Can All External Hard Drives Be Accessed Wireless

I want to purchase a 500GB external harddrive and I want to be able to access it wirelessly with my laptop. I have been looking at high rated external HD's but I am kinda new at this networking stuff and don't know much. Are most external harddrives accessible via wireless connection?

Not in the general sense. Most external HDDs have either a USB or a Firewire port, not an Ethernet port. To access it wireless, you need to plug it into another computer and share it.

Ok basically what I wanted to do was to store music and other media files on this external drive, connect it to my desktop AND be able to access it wirelessly with my laptop. So as long as I connect it to my desktop via some wire connection and set up a network connection I can access it with my laptop?

That is exactly how it will work. It is also fairly easy to set up sharing, can be done in 5 minutes by a novice.
