for any desktop u dont even need half of that. for a server that would be bout ok.

1GB is enough for any Desktop/Gaming system. This format would be fine if you had 4 DIMM slots.

I do not trust 1GB sticks of RAM, had too much trouble with them in the past.

I heard 2GB of PC3200 is one of the recommendation to play farcry flawlessly.
