If you can see the difference between 1024x768 vs higher resolutions, all the power to ya. I am perfectly happy with the former.

Is there anyone who has a 21" monitor who could provide some sort of input?

the LCD's can only show better graphics on their native resolution, decreasing their resolution will bring jaggy images.

also, 20+ panels have 1600X1200 (thats the main reason for me buying one), below that the resolution will 1280X1024. as if you are buying for gaming only, then do not go for LCD, best is to get a CRT monitor (Mitsubishi Diamond Pro is well recommended)

remember a 21" crt is actually 20'" and a 19" is actually 18" ...and so on...so you could compare a 21" crt to a 19" lcd kinda..cause lcds are actually 19"'s. Comprendez?

I think it also depends how well the monitor can do the scaling to other resos...some are good at it, and some are not.
