Default Usb 2.0

For some reason, my past 3 computer builds all do not have USB 2.0 working. Right now I am running a Gigabyte DS3,, which i thought would have USB 2.0 built in. Can someone tell me if I need a USB 2.0 controller card?

Have you tried updating the drivers?

I think there was a guy here that had this similar problem as for his USB not working. You should try to uninstall the drivers for the USB and then install it again.

How do you know the USB 2.0 isn't working?

Any motherboard supporting a dual core processor more than likely has USB2.0. USB2.0 was common on my older AthlonXP motherboard, it's gotta be on your new one. Try using the CD that came with the motherboard. It should have the drivers for USB2.0 on it. You might have to go into Device Manager and remove the drivers that Windows has automatically selected, but then you can install the correct drivers from the motherboard CD. If you don't have a CD, go to the board manufacturer's website for downloads.

you dont need to install usb 2.0 drivers on newer computers running xp, uninstall the usb 2.0 drivers (hosted from your mobo) and it should be working as long as you are running windows xp sp2 or higher

I'd say it more depends on your motherboard. Newer chipsets may have USB2.0 controllers that Windows XP doesn't have drivers for. In my case, I used the drivers included on the CD and it works fine, but I think it was able to find a working driver before that too.
