Default Unbuffered System Memory vs Registered System Memory

to me ram has always been pritty much ram but

i see it alot more lately out here then ever so i was woundering whats the deal with Unbuffered

System Memory and Registered System Memory which one is better also does registerd have any

compatibilltiy problems with alot of systems or is it pritty much just the same stuff?

Solely depends on the motherboard rather you could use registered or unbuffer memory. Registered memory are commonly use on server motherboard or rarely on workstation when there is alot of memory in use and where it is extremely critical that data be handle properly.

Most common on your desktop and every other are unbuffered. Unbuffered are faster because the chip set deal directly with the ram module with nothing inbetween them.

They can not be mix.

Like law said, registered = servers, they have that ECC which is the error correction control I believe it stands for, so that alone takes performance out of the RAM....but yeah for your normal desktop all you need to concern yourself with is unbuffered
