Default Start up code 44/45 error:

Okay so I'm updating the mother-in-laws computer, right?

Well now that everything is connected and powering correctly I am ready to boot to Windows.

It powers on and runs start up test and reaches the last known config screen. No matter what I choose the system stalls on error codes 44 and 45 switching back and forth quickly. It does this for about 4-5 seconds then restarts the boot sequence.

I have tried last known config, safe mode, and boot Windows normally. All with the same error codes.

According to online manual for mobo:
44 is 'Reserved'
45 says 'Reinitialize Preboot agent serial port'

I do not know what this means. My boot priority is HDD first device, Optical second device.
It does recognize my HDD in BIOS.

Since this is a new mobo, cpu and DIMM, but existing HDD and optical do I need to do anything special in the BIOS to get this booting properly?

Thanks

Why would I need to reinstall Windows when I've kept the same HDD?

If I reinstall Windows, will it erase all data saved on the HDD?

What if I don't have the install disc anymore?

Yes.

You could take the HDD put it in your computer and take the data off it. (You couldn't boot to it, just use it as a slave)

And you're SOL I guess.
