Default Sony Vaio laptop extremely slow!

Hiya,
got a sony vaio laptop! running extremely slow, didn't kjnow if was affected by the thunder and lightening we had here. when i go onto the internet from one page to another you can here the hard drive or whatever make very wurring sounds as if it is straining it! it also does it on thing when i start programs up. i didnt no if it was maybe the ram that was hit, or the hard drive
please help, hope you can understand what i have written lol!

Hello,

Is your laptop slow in safe mode?

Power up the laptop, and press F8 just before the OS loading screen, and select to boot into Safe Mode.

Hiya,
it is only really the internet as i havn't tried any other programs! and you cant bring the internet up on safe mode!

Are you on dial-up? Maybe the lightning hit the phoneline and damaged the 56K modem.

no i am on wireless internet! the main computer is fine! do you think it is something to do with my ram?

...you can use the Internet in Safe Mode.

Boot using the Safe Mode (with Networking) option.
