Hi all.

Today I had to do a full destructive recovery of my pc and yes I lost all my files!!!! What I done was alter the permissions on my pc so not only could a normal user nat have access to the C drive or could they save any files I also denied the administrator all the permissions as well as the system so I couldn't do a system restore. Such was the state of my compueter I couldn't even save my files to an online storage site and if I tried to get into change my preferences the computer just denied me and in the end I had to re-install my pc and I lost all my files in the process.

What I want to know is if it is possible to retrieve the files that where lost when I done a full destructive recover of my pc? I know they are still there because any would be fraudsters could get there hand on my HDD and find all my details, but what I want to know is can I retrieve the files with software or do I need specialist hardware?

Your help will be much appreciated.

I have used easy recovery pro in the past for formatted and reinstalled drives to retrieve files with around a 80% success rate.
File Recovery Software - File Repair - Easy Recovery - Ontrack Data Recovery

Not positive is it is Vista compatible.

They have an individual edition for $89.

The key is to do as little writing to the hard drive as possible until you can recover data. The more you write the less your chance of data recovery.

Cheers do you have anything that is free as the info I lost aint worth £40.

Nothing I have ever used myself hence I would be hesitant to recommend any.

Hopefully someone else has a recommendation or perhaps a little work on google may turn up an option for you.

The place i work for are agents for Ontrack Data Recovery Services. And i do recommend this software. It's much cheaper than trying to take it to a data recovery service where they will charge you just to look at the drive. Then charge you again for the data recovery. Mind you, by the time they finish looking at the drive, it up to them whether or not they recover your data, or hit the delete key.

If you are after some thing that is free, then there is a software called Restoration. It's okay. But ontrack is better.

Yes i know it is almost like the free music service. But there is a File Recovery one as well. I have used it before and it is decent for a free software solution.
