Default PC freezing up

For the last year (since I started playing PC games) my computer freezes up alot. The last image is displayed on the monitor but is totally unresponsive to anything else. I have to hold the power button for eight seconds to shut it off then reboot. I talked to a guy in my gaming clan and he said my video card might be overheating.

I just wanted to run it by you guys to see what you think.

My PC:

Dell Dimension 4600

2.4 P4 Northwood

EVGA 6600GT 128 MB

512MB Dell RAM/512 MB Kingston Value RAM

yes it could be overheating

or spyware can cause a similiar problem too

just do virus and spyware scans on a weekly basis

and try to use the programs online to check the temps of your cpu and gpu

Everest, google it and get it from majorgeeks. It's free and will tell you the temperature of your cpu. For the graphics card yours have a build in one, you can see it in the nvidia forceward drivers by right clicking on background>properties>settings>advanced> your gfx card>temperature.
