Please help me, I need some serious advice here. I've an overheating problem for more than a week. According to speedfan, my CPU's overheating to 70 C and maintains that temperature. It never decreases, if it does only 1 C low and the temperature rises to 96 C then shut my computer down whenever I play games but I try to avoid to playing since it'll make the situation worse. Please tell me what to do.

OS: Windows XP
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPU's)
Memory: 2046 MB of RAM
GFX Card: NVIDIA 7800 GT 512 MB

Easiest thing to do is lower the room temparture.

Apart from that. What Heatsink and thermal paste are you using?

Have you tried reapplying thermal Paste?
What is the case cooling setup? Amount of fans?

Clean your case and replace the thermal paste.

I forgot to mention that my pc is custom built. I don't know what my thermal paste is nor heat sink. Some technician did it for me. I have 3 fans overall.

Will it help if I replace the thermal paste? or clean the cell processor fan?

Cleaning the CPU fan and heatsink may help, if there is any dust build up. make sure you hold the fan blades from spinning as you can destroy the fan by spraying with compressed air and over spinning it. I also agree that you might want to check your thermal paste, as well, possibly upgrade your CPU cooler.
