Default Ok this is ticking me off

My cpu will not stop overheating!!!!! i have an amd athlon 3200+ and i recently bought a new Heatsink/fan and got arctic silver 5. And yes i applied it right. my CPU is still overheating!!! once i launch a game or anything that takes cpu ussage i go to 60c and comp freezes or reboots. Is my CPU shorted out? Is it Dying? plz hELP!!!!

Do you have motherboard software running in windows? It could be corrupted and getting bad readings from the bios and shutting you down through software..

I agree with alex there's something else going on 60c is perfectly fine when loaded it won't cause shutdowns or instability until 75 or so. Have you scaned for scumware lately? defragged your hdd? When was your last fresh install of xp?

I installed XP fresh not to long ago. Once my pc hits 59-65c between there it will reboot or freeze.and 75c is redicously high for an amd athlon.. NOT amd 64. Idle its aboput 46. Its like my heatsink is not doing its job =/.

The socket A athlon's are the hottest running cpu's ever!! they have a thermal spec of 90c below 1100mhz and from 1100mhz to 1400mhz it is 95c. I don't care if you believe me or not, but your cpu isn't overheating at 60c they idle about 55c
