Default notebook battery buzzing

i had my notebook, sony vaio, plugged in when a storm came. Now when i take it off the charger it buzzes. But when i have it plugged in it works fine. Can anyone help? did i just fry the battery or somehting

what model / year is ur laptop?
also does the batt get warm when u use it? if so how much?
one more question, is it making any weird smells?

the battery is not warm, no wierd smells, but i did figure out that changing the brightness up and down on the monitor changes the noise, and when the computer is on, with no monitor, there is no noise. however the noise is gone when it is on AC power and monitor is still on.

it is a sony vaio VGN-AX580G
