not really. Try replacing the thermal pad with arctic silver 5.

take off CPU heatsink

remove existing thermal grease with at least a tissue. preferrably with alcohol. (from CPU and heatsink)

place arctic silver 5 on the CPU core

put heatsink back on, making sure it is clipped on properly and covers the core properly

If a CPU heatsink isn't on properly, the CPU will get hot.

My P4 3.4ghz prescott has been running at 100% for almost 7 days now and is steady at 72C.

Yeah, I'm folding... Everyone should get some usage out of their processors. Plus, in the cold wintry months it's a great space heater! woot!

My PD has been at 100% for about a week now to... also folding.. im holding at 60C. Your right about the winter.. it helps keep the temps down, espically up here.

My athlon X2 3800+ socket 939 ran right around 60C too, didn't hurt anything. I swapped out the stock heatsink after a while with a zalman, it now runs around 35C. Max safe temp for your proc is almost 90C.

Newegg's down so no link for you, but it was a nice solid copper with a ton of fins. around 25 bucks

Yes, it's fine. XP's run hot. My XP 2000+ @ 1.6ghz with stock cooler and AS5 was 56 idle in the winter.. you're fine.
