Default mouse issue

So about a week ago, i lost the ability to press on the middle scroll button and go up and down webpages fast. Does that make sense? Also, i cannot click with the middle button while i'm in firefox and open a new tab. However, i can scroll up and down with it. what could be causing this? I unplugged the mouse and plugged it back in and i have the same problem. Is there a setting in firefox? I even used TweakUI and i couldnt' fix it. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help. I found out my wife spilled a drink on the mouse. I took it apart and cleaned it well, now it's working!
