Question Monitor malfunction?

The monitor on kid's computer was acting up in that when I turn the computer on the screen would be blank even though the monitor power button was on. The light would go from green to yellow. Sometimes however the monitor would come on but later not at all.

I put my old monitor on it and that worked for a while, but now I notice that at times ,the monitor would work ok then all of a sudden the screen would go blank. If you wait long enough it would come back on! or it would work again if you turn off the computer and start again.

The computer is a Compaq HP.

So what is wrong? Why is this computer destroying monitors? or is it something else?

I even moved the speakers away from beside the monitor but it still happens. Do you think it is the monitor or could it be the video card? If it is the monitor why would it come on ok at times and then just cut out?

Any suggestions?

Try a different video card.
