Default Memory Upgrade, computer still slow!

A few months ago I upgraded my memory. I used to have 1GB of Corsair memory, I decided to dual channel it and I bought the exact same model. My motherboard does support dual channelling, and the memory is the exact same: Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory - Retail

But my computer does not seem any faster than it was before. My other computer has 1GB of memory and it seems way faster than my 2GB dual channel memory. Should I try disabling dual channel mode to see if anything changes?

my specs are:
p4 2.7 GHZ
200GB HDD
Onboard sound, and
ATI 9000 128MB

The computer should be more faster? as in I should be able to get away with having a lot more apps running? yes it gets very slow when I open more than 4 IE browsers, and am watching a video. etc.

Thanks

The memory shouldn't be the problem. I can run Photoshop, Many Web pages, Nikon Capture... without any slowing with 1GB.

Your hard drive is most likely the problem. Pick up one of newest models and you should gain a lot of speed.

Scan for spyware ( google adaware se)

Defrag your harddrive too before you go out buying new components

I agree. If no spware or virus is detected then the hd could be the problem.
Also defrag. Have you ever reformatted and reinstalled windows?
