Default loud fan

Hi,

I just purchased a new computer and the fan is abnoxiously loud. Is there any settings I can change to fix this? I checked the bios and the RPM is 5800-6000. Is that normal? Would lower the RPM maybe help? I don't need too much speed for this computer.

My last computer is 6 years old and I don't remember hearing the fan at all.I tried using AMD's cool 'n quiet, but it's not working properly. Says something about not having a valid PSS or PST.

Help,
Jamie

Yeah, I already did. I can't do much except view the CPU "health status" and change the shutdown temperature. This is a AMD Athlon XP with Phoenix bios.

Purchase an aftermarket heatsink and fan from zalman. It comes with fan controller software if I am not mistaken.
